Former European Parliament Member: Iraq Plays a Central Role in Regional Connectivity

Patricia Mary, former member of the European Parliament, expressed her delight during her first visit to the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, to participate in the 7th Baghdad International Dialogue Conference, which focused on the Belt and Road Initiative. She emphasized the importance of this event in enhancing both regional and international cooperation.

In a media statement on the sidelines of the conference, Mary mentioned that she had previously visited several Middle Eastern countries, including Syria and Iran, which provided her with a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing the region. She noted that her presence in Baghdad added a practical dimension to her research and knowledge.

She added that her participation in this conference was driven by her strong interest in the Belt and Road Initiative, which she closely follows as part of her work in her think tank. Mary affirmed that the initiative represents a strategic opportunity for the countries involved to strengthen infrastructure and economic integration, and she expressed hope that it will achieve its goals for the benefit of the region’s people.
